Dr. George is a native Floridian.  After growing up in South Florida, he pursued medical and oncology training at the University of Florida.  He is currently a tenured Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Florida.  Clinical research in gastrointestinal malignancies is the primary aspect of his academic interests with a focus on practice changing clinical trials and early phase drug development.  He is Co-Chair of the NRG Oncology (NCI) GI Cancer Committee and Chair of the NRG Colorectal Cancer subcommittee and serves as a voting member of the NCI GI Cancer Clinical Trials Steering Committee, NCI Colorectal Cancer Radiotherapy Working Group (serving as Co-Chair) and New Agent Development subcommittees, as well as a ad hoc member of the NCI Pancreatic, Gastric, Hepatobiliary, Colon and Rectal-Anal Cancer Task Forces.  As the Director of the GI Oncology Program at the University of Florida, he helps oversee the treatment and clinical research opportunities for all patients with GI malignancies.  As Director of the UF Health Cancer Center Experimental Therapeutics Group and Associate Director for Clinical Research, he oversees the integration of molecular and genomic profiling results with clinical trial eligibility and treatment with early phase experimental therapeutics, immunotherapy and supportive care interventions.  Having previously served as the Program Director for one of the largest fellowship training programs in the country, he has a longstanding personal commitment to mentorship of the next generation of clinical investigators, serving as a mentor for many both in and outside of the state.
