Dr. Edgardo S. Santos obtained his medical degree in 1994 at the National University of Panama School of Medicine. He did internship I and II in Panama and entered Internal Medicine residency program ranked # 1 during the national contest. He then moved to the United States of America where he did internship, internal medicine residency and hematology/oncology fellowship at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami School of Medicine from 1998-2004. As a fellow, Dr. Santos was awarded as the best fellow in Hematology-Oncology as well as the best fellow for the entire Department of Medicine in 2003.

Dr. Santos started his faculty career as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Tulane University Health Sciences Center. In that renowned institution, Dr. Santos occupied several administrative positions including Associate Scientific Director, Office of Clinical Research; Tulane University Principal Investigator, Southwest Oncology Group; Co-Leader, Clinical Research Program, Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium; Chair of the Committee Research Advisory Board; Associate Director, Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program, and Chief, Section of Hematology-Medical Oncology, Southeast Louisiana Veterans Healthcare System. In 2005, he was awarded with the Spirit Award from the American Cancer Society.

In 2008, Dr. Santos moved back to Florida and was appointed as the Associate Director of the Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program and Co-Leader of the Head/Neck Cancer group. In 2011, Dr. Santos was promoted to Associate Professor of Medicine. In 2012, Dr. Santos moved to Boca Raton, Florida to be the Medical Director of Cancer Research at Eugene & Christine Lynn Cancer Institute/Boca Raton Regional Hospital. In his new role, he supervises all clinical research in cancer for the entire institution and was the local principal investigator of all lung cancer and head/neck clinical trials. With novel therapies available and innovative clinical trials, the number of accruals into clinical trials at Lynn Cancer Institute significantly increases under Dr. Santos leadership. In 2013, Florida Atlantic University appointed him the title of Clinical Affiliate Associate Professor, a position that Dr. Santos still hold until present. He actively participates yearly in the educational curriculum of second year medical students at Florida Atlantic University.

Dr. Santos is a lung cancer and head/neck cancer expert. He has published multiple peer reviewed manuscripts in these areas and has lectured on different topics on lung cancer from prevention, diagnosis, and treatments including targeted therapy and immunotherapy at regional, national and international forums. Dr. Santos has 21-year experience in clinical and translational research on lung cancer. Today, he is the Chair of the Publication Committee of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC), the largest international organization in the fight against lung cancer. He is also assistant and contributor of IASLC News, actively involved in the process of this international magazine. Dr. Santos is actively involved in Florida American Society of Clinical Oncology (FLASCO) where he is member of Board of Directors and the actual Secretary of this organization. From his position, Dr. Santos try to secure educational events to promote cancer prevention and awareness as well as patient advocacy programs in the entire Florida State sponsored by FLASCO. These educational events reach not only physicians and patients but other healthcare professionals who are involved with cancer care.

Dr. Santos is member of several prestigious organizations including: American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Association of Clinical Research, European Society of Medical Oncology, American College of Physician (in which Dr. Santos has the title of Fellow in recognition for his efforts in medicine at different levels), American Society of Hematology, and IASLC. He is also one of the founders of the Oncology Latin America Association (OLA) and Co-Chair of the IASLC Latin America Group (LATAM). Dr. Santos is also actively involved in organizing, directing and planning continuing medical education at local, regional, national and international levels. In the United States, he is the program director of Miami Cancer Meeting, Winter Puerto Rico Symposium and the New Orleans Summer Cancer Meeting. At the International scenario, former Chair of the IASLC LALCA Congress in Panama (2016), former Scientific Chair of IASLC LALCA Congress in Argentina (2018), and the International Chair of IASLC LALCA Congress in Mexico in October 2019.

Dr. Santos now joins Florida Precision Oncology Research & Consulting as a Founding Partner. Dr. Santos and his colleagues look forward to delivering excellent care and expertise management in cancer care and make the patient the focus of their practice by using all latest and innovative technology to deliver precision medicine to everyone.
