Dr. Jose Sarria has been the Chief of the Pain Medicine Service at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa since 2005. During this time, he became aware of a pressing need for dedicated pain and symptom management of cancer patients and particularly of cancer survivors, a growing population that frequently find it difficult to return to normal life, recognizing that the long lasting effects of chemotherapy, biotherapies, surgeries and radiation have initiated a new set of cancer ailments long after the cancer has gone into remission or has been eradicated. These survivorship pain issues require pain physicians that are specialized in treating these conditions.
Dr. Sarria has also found that one of the key elements to successfully managing these patients is an effective line of communication with the patient’s oncologist in order to avoid confusion when it comes to treatment goals.
He is a Board Certified in Pain Medicine as well as Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine, offering Medical, Interventional and Alternative approaches to pain and symptom management for cancer patients.
