Dr. Guillermo Abesada-Terk and Dr. Alpana Desai Join Nation’s Largest Independent Oncology Group 

Stuart, FL – March 6, 2017. . . Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS), the leading community oncology/hematology practice in the state, is pleased to announce that Alpana Desai, MD and Guillermo Abesada-Terk, MD have joined the practice and are seeing patients at the new Stuart office of Florida Cancer Specialists, located at 301 Southeast Ocean Boulevard, Suite 102, Stuart, FL.

After graduating Cum Laude in Chemistry from the University of Miami, Dr. Guillermo Abesada-Terk earned his medical degree from the University Of Miami School Of Medicine. He then completed his Internal Medicine residency at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, a major teaching affiliate of Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland. Following his residency, Dr. Abesada-Terk was awarded a fellowship in hematology and medical oncology at the University of Pittsburgh Montefiore Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Fluent in Spanish, Dr Abesada-Terk has been practicing Oncology in the Stuart area since 1991, where he also served as Institutional Review Board Chairman at Martin Memorial Health and was the Medical Research Director of the Martin Health System Center for Clinical Research at Robert and Carol Weissman Cancer Center in Stuart, FL. from 2010 to 2013. Dr. Abesada-Terk also holds a position as Florida State University Medical School Assistant Clinical Professor.

Dr. Alpana Desai received her internal medicine training at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. After completing her residency, Dr. Desai relocated to the Stuart area, where she practiced emergency and internal medicine, before completing her Medical Oncology fellowship at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, FL. Since 2002, Dr. Desai has been treating cancer patients in Stuart, FL, where she also serves as Chairwoman of the Martin Health Cancer Committee. Demonstrated by her active participation in various research projects throughout her training, Dr. Desai has an avid interest in clinical research. She has served as principal investigator in a number of clinical trials and has a special interest in breast, colorectal and lung malignancies. Dr. Desai is focused on treating the whole patient, utilizing conventional and complementary therapies. She is currently pursuing a prestigious Integrative Medicine Fellowship, led by internationally-recognized integrative medicine leader Andrew Weil, MD, at the University of Arizona Medical School.
