Florida Cancer Affiliates (FCA) has added a new radiation oncologist to the practice. Kazumi Chino, M.D., joined the practice’s North Florida division and is providing radiation oncology services in Panama City. Dr. Chino has extensive training in the very latest state-of-the art radiation therapies and is board certified in Radiation Oncology. She treats the full gamut of malignancies and benign conditions treatable with radiation including breast, lung, prostate, and head/neck cancers.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Chino to Florida Cancer Affiliates,” said Syed Mahmood, M.D., medical oncologist, Florida Cancer Affiliates. “With her advanced training in the most cutting-edge radiation techniques and great bedside manner, Dr. Chino will be an invaluable asset to our integrated cancer treatment team.”

Prior to joining Florida Cancer Affiliates, Dr. Chino concurrently served as Oncology Program Medical Director at St. Elizabeth Hospital, and Medical Director/Radiation Oncologist at Unity Health Care’s Faith, Hope & Love Cancer Center, both in Lafayette, Indiana. As the Medical Director for St. Elizabeth’s Oncology Program, she led weekly tumor boards and coordinated education and access to specialty cancer care for patients and physicians, providing her a unique perspective and deep understanding of integrated care.

Dr. Chino earned her M.D. degree from the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine, followed by an Internal Medicine internship at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. She then completed her Radiation Oncology Residency at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center, Department of Radiation, serving as Chief Resident during her last year. Dr. Chino has extensive training and experience in the latest radiotherapy technologies, including Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT), Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT). She also has expertise in HDR and LDR techniques, prostate seed implants, GliaSite brachytherapy, as well as MammoSite and SAVI brachytherapy. She is a member of the American Society of Therapeutic Radiation and Oncology.

“It was important for me to join a practice committed to providing leading-edge treatment options and a multi-disciplinary team approach, giving patients the best opportunity to achieve optimal outcomes,” said Dr. Chino. “I am excited to join Florida Cancer Affiliates’ like-minded, highly-skilled physicians who share my patient care philosophy.”

Dr. Chino’s knowledge and skills significantly enhance FCA of North Florida’s comprehensive radiation oncology program that provides patients convenient, community-based access to the very latest advances in radiation therapy. These exciting new treatments precisely target the cancer, increasing effectiveness while protecting surrounding tissue and minimizing side effects. The practice currently offers a wide range of innovative radiation therapy technologies including:

  • Superficial radiation treatment
  • Electron beam therapy
  • Three dimensional conformal therapy
  • Intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT)
  • Image guided radiation therapy (IGRT) with cone beam CT (CBCT)
