FLASCO Members Visit the Hill

Yesterday, FLASCO Members, Dr. Alan Marks and Dr. Morganna Freeman, along with Matthew Martello of Johnson & Johnson, participated in Biotechnology Innovation Organization’s Fly-In Legislative Day. They were able to meet with key members of Congress and their staff. They met with Representative Kathy Castor, Representative David Jolly, Representative Daniel Webster, and Representative Alan Grayson. The group also met with the congressional staff of Representative Mario Diaz-Balart, Senator Bill Nelson, Senator Marco Rubio, Representative Carlos Curbelo, Representative Alcee Hastings, Representative Patrick Murphy, Representative Curt Clawson, Representative Ted Yoho, and Representative Gus Bilirakis. The important topics covered included CMS’s recently proposed Part B Drug Payment Model; Senate Innovation Initiative/Drug Development, Discovery, & Delivery Reforms; target abuses of the US patent system while protecting innovation; how changing the Medicare Part D Program can negatively impact patients; support of full appropriations for key areas critical to discovery & innovation; and support of a federal, science-based GMO food labeling solution.
