The Goal of the FLASCO Foundation, Inc., Outreach program is to bring together cancer patients, cancer survivors, caregivers, oncology experts and corporate supporters together to learn and exchange information on various types of cancer. This project was the dream of Past President Gerald Robbins, MD. This was one of his main initiatives and it was exciting to see his long hours of hard work, dedication and his vision come to a reality with this event.

A special thanks is extended to Takeda Oncology for providing an unrestricted educational grant that enabled FLASCO Foundation, Inc. to hold its first Patient Advocacy Program this week. The Program was titled, Living with Myeloma, and it was held in Tampa. More than 35 patients and caregivers participated in this event.  We want to also thank Celgene, Onyx and the LLS for exhibiting at this event.

The FLASCO Foundation, Inc. also thanks Dr. Michael Diaz, for serving in several roles at this event; Dr. Kenneth Shain, MD, from Moffitt Cancer Center, for providing expert information on Myeloma the Disease and the Treatment Options; Dr. Lawrence Hochman, from Florida Cancer Affiliates, for discussing Radiation options; Kena Miller, ARNP, from Takeda Oncology for her presentation on Caring for the Caregiver; and to Beth Finley-Oliver, RN, Nurse Navigator at Moffitt Cancer Center, for explaining the many patient assistance programs available to Myeloma Cancer Patients.

Due to the success of this first FLASCO Foundation, Inc. Patient Advocacy Event it is planned to hold several other programs of this type around the state during the remainder of this year.
