Dr. Augusto Villegas Joins Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute at New Fleming Island Location

Nation’s Largest Independent Oncology Group Welcomes New Physician in Jacksonville/Fleming Island

Fleming Island, FL – July 3, 2017. . . Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS), the leading community oncology/hematology practice in Florida, is pleased to announce that Augusto E. Villegas, MD has joined the statewide network and will be seeing patients at a new FCS location in Clay County, FL. Dr. Villegas will practice at the Fleming Island office, which is located at 4689 US Highway 17, Suites 2-5, Fleming Island, FL 32003.

Dr. Villegas is a leading Jacksonville area medical oncologist and is well-respected by both colleagues and patients. He joins Dr. Elizabeth Kent and Dr. Jeffrey Bubis in establishing our new Clay County location and bringing world-class cancer treatment to the local community.”

Dr. William Harwin, Founder and President of FCS, added, ” Dr. Villegas has been practicing in the Jacksonville area for over a decade and has a keen interest in clinical research. In fact, Dr. Villegas recently presented some of his clinical research at the 2017 American Society of Clinical Oncology conference, which was held early in June. He will be a great addition to our network.”

Dr. Villegas earned his medical degree from Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Damas Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program in Ponce, PR. He served as Chief Resident during his third year of training. After completion of residency, Dr. Villegas initiated his private practice in Ponce, in addition to serving as a clinical instructor at Ponce School of Medicine and as Director of Ambulatory Services at Ponce Correctional Complex. In 2003, Dr. Villegas relocated to Jacksonville, FL to pursue his career in Medical Oncology. He completed his fellowship training in Medical Oncology at University of Florida Health Science Center, Jacksonville Campus in 2005. Upon completion, he decided to stay in Jacksonville and join private practice.

Fluent in Spanish, Dr. Villegas is an active faculty member and lecturer for the Orange Park Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Villegas’ research interests include breast cancer, lung cancer and immunotherapies. He has been published in several peer reviewed journals and Dr. Villegas has presented at various symposiums and national scientific meetings, including the 2017 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the 2015 World Conference on Lung Cancer.
