Congratulations Dr. Mohammad Jahanzeb!

Mohammad Jahanzeb, M.D., Medical Director of Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at Deerfield Beach, has been appointed Chair-Elect of the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®) Steering Group Committee.

Jahanzeb, professor of medicine, has been instrumental in the development of QOPI since its inception in 2002. He has served as a member of the original QOPI Alpha Group, the Original Measures Work Group and the Physician Champion Pilot Testing Group. As Chair-Elect, he will oversee and steer the strategic direction and implementation of the QOPI program.

ASCOQOPI is an oncologist-led, practice-based quality improvement program for hematology-oncology practices.QOPI’s goal is to promote excellence in cancer care by helping practices create a culture of self-examination and improvement. The process employed for improving cancer care includes measurement, feedback and improvement tools for more than 160 quality metrics. There are currently 200 QOPI certified practices in the United States. Sylvester, one of just three facilities to attain QOPI certification in the South Florida region, achieved a perfect score in 2013, its most recent three-year certification.

A breast and lung cancer oncologist, Jahanzeb has served on the Breast Cancer and Lung Cancer Guideline Panels of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, and on the breast and lung cancer committees of the Southwest Oncology Group.

“It’s an honor to be chosen by my peers to help lead this committee in the coming years,” said Jahanzeb. “We are all focused on raising the bar in order to improve care for cancer patients everywhere.”

Jahanzeb will begin his two-year term as Chair-Elect in 2015.
